About me and what I do
I am a Music Producer/Engineer, Orchestral Arranger, Pianist & Composer originally from Co. Donegal now working internationally for recording artists and film. Often new clients want to find out about me and the things I’ve done. So we made this web site so I can avoid talking about myself too often! Thanks for dropping by.
In 2012/2013 I produced and arranged all tracks on Foy Vance’s new LP “The Joy of Nothing” (released Summer of 2013 on Glassnote Records Worldwide) including tracks featuring Ed Sheeran and Bonnie Rait.
In 2014 I arranged the songs of Lisa Hannigan for The RTE National Symphony Orchestra for the President’s Concert in the NCH, Dublin.
In 2010 I co-produced (alongside longtime collaborator Ciaran Gribbin (Madonna, INXS) the original soundtrack to “Killing Bono” starring Ben Barnes, Robert Sheehan and Pete Postlewaithe for Paramount pictures (cinema release April 2011, soundtrack available Sony Music).
Many arrangements have featured on the Ulster Orchestra’s “Proms in The Park” live from Hillsborough Castle 2010 (with Duke Special) and the “Proms in the Park” live from Titanic Slipway in Belfast in 2012 (with Foy Vance) on BBC TV and again at the same concert in Proms in the Park 2014 (Phil Coulter).
I have also arranged for the RTE Concert Orchestra’s concert series in the NCH, Dublin and The Cork Opera House for the “Ruby & The Duke” series featured in Feb 2011 broadcast on RTE Radio. In May 2012 I arranged the music of Duke Special for a special concert with the Ulster Orchestra in The Waterfront Hall in Belfast.
In January 2012 I produced “We Are United” for INXS to be performed live on the steps of Parliament Buildings in Canberra to an audience of 45,000 on ABC TV. In 2009 I recorded/mixed and co-produced the original soundtrack to Philip Ridley’s “Heartless” starring Jim Sturgess, Clemence Posey and Timothy Spall (cinema release by Lionsgate May 2010, soundtrack available Universal records).
In March 2011 with Duke Special I arranged all music and co-wrote for a special concert at the MET Museum of Art in New York City featuring Duke Special & The Orchestra de Chambre Miniature. I re-orchestrated this work for the RTE Concert Orchestra and ‘Under The Dark Cloth’ was recorded and released in March 2012 to critical acclaim. I also worked as arranger for Duke Special’s 2012 release ‘Oh Pioneer’.
As a long time engineer/orchestral arranger for legendary Irish songwriter/producer Phil Coulter, I completed 4 albums as orchestral arranger and engineer including 4 PBS TV specials achieving in America sales in excess of 2 million records (Gold Album USA, 2 Gold & 1 Platinum Album in Canada, 2 Platinum Albums and 1 Gold in Australia).
I was the recipient of the prestigious BBC Radio3/Huddersfield Festival Composers Award and as pianist in the Brian Irvine ensemble hold a BBC Radio 3 Jazz Award and received a ‘Hotpress’ Award and an Irish Meteor Award Nomination for work with my original rock band ‘Leya’.
I have worked in some of the worlds most prestigious studios including Metropolis- London, Windmill Lane – Dublin, Metalworks – Toronto, Sing Sing – Melbourne, Australia, Amberville Studio in N. Ireland, Grouse Lodge in Ireland and most recently Attica Audio in Co. Donegal. I have worked with many international producers including Mike Hedges (U2, Dido), Mike Chapman (Blondie, Tina Turner) and Chris Potter (The Verve, The Feeling).
I hold a Masters degree from the School of Music at The Queen’s University of Belfast.
